Kevin Olson, President and CEO of Grundy Bank is shown welcoming Joe Schmitz as a new member of the bank’s staff. Olson said, “It’s with great excitement that all of us at Grundy Bank welcome Joe Schmitz who is joining the bank on a part time basis to assist JR Hock with the bank’s marketing efforts, their overall commitment to community relations, plus working with prospective clients.”

He continued, “Schmitz is a well respected community leader with a banking career that dates back to 1976 until his retirement as President and CEO of Exchange Bank of Gardner.”

Joe has been actively involved in our Grundy County Community at ICS school and church, charter member of MALS, and the Grundy County Community Foundation Board of Directors. He also served on the boards of Grundy County Hospice, Crime Stoppers, Grundy County Heart Fund, Grundy County Chamber of Commerce, Illinois Transplant Fund, Korean/Vietnam Memorial, Morris Police Pension Fund, Gardner Industrial Committee, United Way, plus coaching Morris Little League baseball and Morris girls fast pitch softball which saw the girls team win the Girls Colt World Series Championship in 1988.

Schmitz and his wife, Carol, founded Operation St. Nick in 1979 where he continues as President.

Olson said, “We’re also delighted that Operation St. Nick will be housed here in Grundy Bank. Our employees are anxious to help with their Radio Auction each December, and other responsibilities that make St. Nick continue as one of the Gold Standard charities serving Grundy County families.”

Schmitz has been the recipient of several honors and awards and most recently was inducted into the Morris Community High School Hall of Distinction this past January, and last month was named one of the Joliet Herald-News & Morris Herald-News Everyday Heroes for his philanthropic efforts through Operation St. Nick.

Schmitz said, “It’s a pleasure for Operation St. Nick and myself to be associated with Grundy Bank. I look forward to returning to the heartbeat of the community, and that’s through true community banking which Grundy Bank has been practicing since 1864. It excites me when I think about helping the bank and JR Hock with their community relations and marketing efforts as they continue to grow serving all of Grundy County.”
